The US state of Florida canceled boat parades and other holiday-related celebrations, after a storm dropped 12.7 cm of rain across the state, flooding the streets with water, before heading towards the East Coast.
The National Weather Service issued several flood warnings and the possibility of minor flooding in a wide area of the state, extending from the southwestern Gulf Coast to Jacksonville.
However, major airports remained open at the start of the busy holiday travel season.
“Today is not a good day for swimming or boating,” Lee County Police Chief Carmine Marceno said on the “X” platform, formerly known as Twitter.
Coastal warnings were issued for much of the state after strong winds stirred waters in the Gulf and along the North Atlantic coast.
However, the storm may represent a good sign of hope for those living in Southwest Florida who face water restrictions and drought conditions as what is commonly known as the dry season approaches.
