Today, Saturday, the head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, called for support from the regulatory system to eradicate the scourge of corruption and prosecute its perpetrators.

A statement by the commission received by the (INA) said: “The head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, during his speech at the first conference for legal and political sciences held by the College of Law and Political Sciences – Iraqi University, entitled (The Relationship between Democracy and Regimes), stressed the need to maintain The foundations of the democratic system in Iraq and the protection of its constitutional institutions from the dangers facing them, the most dangerous of which is corruption, pointing out that “the Constitution, which is the supreme legal document, went to establish independent federal bodies, the most important of which is the Federal Integrity Commission, in accordance with Article (102) thereof; With the aim of protecting the gains of that democratic system.”
Hanoun pointed out, according to the statement, “the reasons that necessitated the creation of oversight bodies that were emphasized by the United Nations Convention against Corruption and made it one of the reasons for the emergence of that agreement, such as the danger of corruption in undermining the institutions and values ​​of democracy, endangering sustainable development and the rule of law, and the links of corruption to forms of crime, especially organized crime.” And economic crime, including money laundering, and the threat to the political stability of countries, noting that “the supervisory system, in cooperation with the rest of the official and societal activities, is capable of reducing these risks.”
Hanoun warned that “corruption causes severe harm to democratic institutions, national economies, and the rule of law,” describing it as “the greatest challenge and the most dangerous enemy facing the state, democracy, development, and the entire political system,” urging the concerted efforts of everyone from state authorities, civil society forces, scientific, union, community, and religious actors, and the sector. The private sector and citizens must confront it by developing a culture of integrity and rejecting the culture of corruption, calling for the cooperation of these parties and their support and assistance to the regulatory agencies specialized in combating it, and by directing and responding to the national project mixed with the legal obligation contained in paragraph (sixth) of the victory sermon delivered by the representative of the religious authority in the purified Husseini courtyard.”

The statement concluded by saying, “The conference, held in cooperation with the International Elections Organization, the International Society for Constitutional Law, the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, and the Arab Organization for Constitutional Law, included four axes: the relationship between rights and systems of government, democratic values ​​and populist tendencies, and the role of constitutional courts in Supporting the principles of democracy and anti-corruption, and the necessary reforms to improve the work of democratic institutions.”
