The Metropolitan Blood Center, known as “The Donor’s House“is commemorating World Blood Donor Day, which is celebrated every June 14.
The date was set by WHO to raise awareness and promote the global need for safe blood; as well as thanking volunteer donors from around the world, who play a fundamental role in health systems.
“We have to think that there are many patients requiring transfusion treatment every day of the yearRegardless, this pandemic exists or does not exist. There are traffic accidents, there are delivery emergencies, which will require a transfusion at that time … Neither tomorrow nor the day after when relatives or acquaintances arrive to donate“said the deputy director of the Blood Center, Cecilia Carrasco.
“If we donate blood altruistically and regularly, we will have a continuous blood supply (…) They are missing, we need more donors always and in this period with greater force“he added.
The Metropolitan Blood Center is an institution that supplies the entire network of public hospitals in the Metropolitan region And to achieve that, it takes between 300 and 400 donations a day.
