The police announced that they had caught more than 2,800 people in a special crackdown on construction site violence, the so-called ‘gunpowder’, since the end of last year.
More than 10 cases were included in which gangsters pretended to be unions and extorted money from construction sites.

Gangsters operating in the Cheongju area of Chungcheongbuk-do established a union and extorted 81 million won by making various threats at eight construction sites.
It is the police’s judgment that the union created a group in name only for the purpose of getting money from the construction company in the first place.
The police announced the interim results of the special crackdown on violent acts at construction sites, including about 10 cases in which gangsters were directly involved.
A total of 2,800 people were caught for three months from December of last year, and 75% of them took money and valuables under various pretexts such as union wages.
In addition, cases of obstructing work by blocking entry to the site and forcing the use of equipment or hiring members of the group followed.

Even if the gangsters did not participate, several extraordinary cases were caught, such as scattering hundreds of coins and obstructing entry to the construction site by picking them up one by one.

Although a large-scale crackdown was carried out, the police did not investigate the wrongdoing on the part of the construction company, such as illegal subcontracting or illegal employment of foreigners, saying that it was not a target.
The line was drawn that there was no plan to conduct a separate planning investigation yet, but the labor world criticized the union, especially the two major labor unions, for blaming the illegal act.
