Wildfire Fighting Helicopter Difficult nighttime operating conditions…

Difficulty building fire lines to prevent the spread of wildfires
Fire helicopter safe operation regulations… Difficult to put in a helicopter at night

Helicopters play a big role in extinguishing mountain fires.

However, conditions for flying helicopters at night are difficult.

Since nighttime firefighting work is forced to rely on humans, alternatives are urgent.

This is reporter Oh Tae-in.

The time when the darkness has completely settled.

The fire spreads in bands along the mountain ridge.

Special forest fire extinguishers are working hard.

It is to create a fire line so that the forest fire does not spread further.

In the meantime, the trees inside are burning without help.

The helicopter has to spray water, but it cannot be easily floated at night, so it is in a situation where only small fires are cleared up.

This is because of the safe flight regulations.

Domestic firefighting helicopters can operate at wind speeds of 5m or less per second, and water supply must be done after landing.

Due to the demanding conditions, fire helicopters are rarely deployed at night.

However, the Korea Forest Service actually put the domestic firefighting helicopter Surion into extinguishing night forest fires and even finished the test.

In addition, there is a plan to spray water in large quantities using military transport aircraft, so it is interesting to see if it can be an alternative to extinguishing night forest fires.
