20 minutes – Corona patients flee from the hospitals

-

Numerous corona patients flee from the hospitals. There have been several cases in various hospitals, national police director Jose Ángel González said at a press conference in Madrid on Tuesday.

This is unnecessarily “huge work” for the security authorities to find these patients and bring them back to the hospitals.

In the past few hours alone, there have been two such cases in Leganés near Madrid and in the coastal town of Benidorm in eastern Spain. González complained that in addition to such patients there were “quite a few irresponsible” citizens who violated the curfew imposed a week and a half ago.

Patients lie in the aisles on the floor

Spain reported more than 33,000 people infected on Monday morning. A corona patient is carried dead from the hospital room every six minutes in Madrid. The intensive care units are overcrowded. Images circulating on Twitter show the dramatic situation: patients lie on the floor in the hospital aisles, some are connected to oxygen cylinders and are waiting for medical help. According to Spanish media, the images come from the university hospitals Infanta Leonor and Severo Ochoa in Madrid.

The doctors are at the attack. Nursing staff are overwhelmed by the rapidly increasing number of sick people. Some break out in tears or tiredness on duty, according to the newspaper “El País”. You don’t even have time to pee, complains a doctor from a hospital in Getafe, Madrid. More than ten percent of all infected people are doctors, nurses and paramedics. They complain that insufficient protective equipment is available.

The situation in the Corona hotspot is dramatic

The number of deaths broke through the thousand mark on Sunday. The situation is currently only similarly serious in Bergamo in Italy. The capacity limit in the hospitals has long been exhausted. According to the newspaper “El Mundo”, for example, one of the two university hospitals no longer accepts patients. Hotels or the Madrid exhibition center, where the climate conference was held in December, will be converted into a provisional hospital.

The situation in the Corona hotspot becomes more dramatic every day. In an interview with the newspaper, trade unionist Javier Garcia speaks of people without sick beds who have been sitting on plastic chairs for more than 30 hours. «This morning I saw a person sitting on the floor between two chairs. It’s terrible emotionally. » Experts warn that the health system will collapse if the curfew is not tightened further.

Shattering reports are not just coming from the hospitals. Soldiers have discovered several bodies during the disinfection of old people’s homes. The dead seniors had apparently remained unnoticed for longer, the newspaper “El Mundo” and the state television broadcaster RTVE reported, citing the military emergency aid unit UME. Minister of Transport José Luis Ábalos confirmed the reports at a media conference. Defense Secretary Margarita Robles said the soldiers had seen seniors “completely abandoned, if not dead, on their beds.” She announced on the TV station Tele5 that those responsible for such abuses in the homes would be “relentlessly acted”.
