A dog was recently filmed diving into shark-infested waters on the Caribbean island of the Bahamas.
Get up close to a hammerhead shark
The incident was witnessed on February 15th. The photo was taken by a tour company on a pleasure boat passing through a private island.
The footage initially showed a large hammerhead shark swimming slowly through the water.
When the shark approached the shore, for some reason, a dog appeared near the pier and suddenly jumped into the sea.
Tourists who saw it screamed and some called for the dog to return. Here is how it looks.
Did you succeed in getting rid of sharks?
Rebecca Lightbourn of boat operator Exuma Water Sports said the dog swam around for about two-and-a-half to three minutes, successfully fending off the shark.
If you actually look at the video closely, you can see that the dog is still floating in the sea until the end, while the dog is fighting with the shark, and then the shark goes away.
“Whether he wanted to protect the island or just play with what looked like a really big fish in the water, he just chased it,” says Lightbourn.
This dog is considered the pet of the caretaker of the private island, and is said to always approach and greet tourists when tour boats approach.
Hammerhead sharks grow to 12 to 18 feet in length, and are said to be ferocious and occasionally attack humans. (end)
