- There is a lively bar on the ground floor, where breakfast is served
The Bethnal Green in London is lively on a Saturday night. Bars under the old railway track, with signs that are open until 5 o'clock.
Opening a hotel in this increasingly trendy part of the city seems like a smart move. This could prove to be the East London Hotel, where the rooms start at £ 85, even though they are in the basement with the smallest skylights.
We are on the third floor, hermetically sealed, but overlooking the busy main street. The room is small but thoughtfully designed and spotlessly clean.
The Moment: The East London Hotel is conveniently located in a trendy part of the city
The 43-inch TV sits in a wooden frame so you barely notice it. There is room under the bed for a suitcase and the thought has gone into the lighting. The bathroom has a mirror that does not evaporate.
This is the accommodation of the moment. This means a brown piece of A4 paper through a directory explaining that contact with the staff is made via WhatsApp.
No restaurant as such, but there is a lively bar on the ground floor where breakfast is served. We go to nearby Brick Lane for a curry. In the elevator we come to a group of 20 people who just want to see the performance of a friend.
Coincidentally, we see her at 8 o'clock in the morning over coffee and order our crushed avocado on sourdough. They had a long night and looked rotten, but it is just the place for those who have unconventional hours. It is an unconventional type of hotel.
