Back to normal for Twitter after global outage

Twitter resumed its normal course after a global outage of nearly two hours on Thursday, October 15. The social network would have gone well with this a priori technical incident, the day after a controversy over its management of a political article, in the midst of the campaign for the US presidential election.

“Twitter has been down for a lot of you and we’re working on a return to normal for everyone,” the California group tweeted. We have had issues with our internal systems and have no evidence of a security breach or computer attack. “

On Thursday night Friday, around 2 a.m. PST, it was again possible to perform certain actions, such as retweeting a message, but many users were still unable to send a new Tweet. They continued to receive the message displayed when the outage started. “Something went wrong, but don’t worry. Try again, ”the network told several users who tried to tweet.

On the Downdetector site, reports of Internet users prevented from using the platform were coming from all over the world, and more particularly from densely populated areas in the United States and Japan. The outage appears to have started around 11:30 p.m. (Paris time).

“We are continuing to monitor the situation while our teams investigate. More updates to come, ”read the site’s application programming interface (API) at the height of the outage.

This outage came at the wrong time for Twitter. The social network has suffered since Wednesday morning the anger of the American right and many observers, unhappy that the platform has decided to block the sharing of an article based on pirated documents and compromising for Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential candidate , given a winner by most polls.
