Barcelona Japanese club have confirmed
Kashima Antlers have confirmed that Japanese forward Hiroki Abe will become a Barcelona player this summer.
The versatile 20-year-old plays in attack for Kashima Antlers, but in midfield for Japan.
In a statement on Friday, the club revealed they’d reached a “basic agreement” with the Catalan club and outlined that the transfer would be completed after he underwent his medical examinations.
Abe joined Kashima in 2017 and won the J-League‘s Young Player of the Year award in 2018.
“I have a strong desire to take new challenges at Barcelona,” he said in the same statement, explaining that the decision wasn’t an easy one.
Barcelona will cover the costs of terminating the player’s contract in Japan.
Abe has played 14 times this season, scoring once, as Kashima sit fourth in the table.
