Duchess Camilla (74), Britain’s future queen, turns 17 on July 17.
In a new interview with British Vouge, the Duchess reflects on her relationship with Prince Charles, and the enormous media attention they have received from the very beginning.
Prince Charles’ ex-wife, the late Princess Diana, was much loved by the British people. Thus, it was not just-only when Duchess Camilla came into the picture. There was a lot of speculation, postings and headlines – and according to Vogue, it turned out that many chose the site.
In 2017, Duchess Camilla spoke about the time with the enormous spotlight and said, among other things, that at one point she could not go anywhere.
– You have to move on
– It was absolutely awful. It was an extremely uncomfortable time and something I had not wished for my worst enemy. I would not have survived if it were not for my family, she said in an interview with The Mail On Sunday at the time.
Fortunately for the Duchess, that time is a bygone chapter, and most people will probably think that her popularity has increased considerably. In the new Vogue interview, she admits that it has not been an easy road to get there.
– It is not easy. I was scrutinized for so long that you almost only have to find a way to live with it. No one likes to be seen all the time, and to be criticized. But I think in the end, I got over it and moved on. You have to move on in life, the Duchess tells the magazine.
In the same interview, the Duchess reveals that there will be no big celebration in July, despite the fact that she turns 75 years old.
– I want to spend the day with family and friends, she explains to the magazine.
The Duchess also states that she no longer thinks so much about turning one.
– You know, my mother died when she was 72, so I’ve survived her. Which is strange, she tells the magazine when she reflects on getting older.
In the interview, she also talks warmly about her grandchildren. Duchess Camilla has five grandchildren, aged 12 to 14. The 74-year-old can reveal that she loves sending text messages with them, and that she uses her iPad to play the word game “Worlde” with one of them.
Hummingly, the Duchess says that it is very satisfying when the granddaughter points out that she is “brilliant” in connection with their internet gaming.
