Fighting and shooting during Halloween weekend in Miami Beach – Telemundo Miami (51)

Halloween weekend got off to a violent start in Miami Beach, with fights and shootings in the early hours of Saturday as the city prepared to receive thousands of visitors in the next few hours.

During the early hours of this Saturday the police had to respond to a shooting in a sector of Collins Avenue where a woman was injured after an altercation, minutes later just a few blocks away a fight also broke out, all this left a balance of two injured people and one arrested.

Simón Calle was walking when he heard the shots, “I was walking with my girlfriend on the beach (…) we thought they were fireworks. It is worrying to see that in the streets of Miami and how close to the hotels, we came here on vacation for two weeks and it is difficult to see this ”.

A woman was shot in the area of 1500 Collins Avenue, already in the afternoon of this Saturday the police arrested a female in relation to the incident, according to the authorities, the victim had had an altercation with another woman moments before of receiving the bullet impact near his abdomen. She was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

However, the wave of incidents continued minutes later when just a few blocks away, at 865 Collins Avenue, a group of at least 7 people began to fight.

In a video you can see the moment in which a man who was walking through Mega Pizza is hit by another, which sparks a fight. According to the police report, the suspect hit him several times until he made his nose bleed.

Mitch Novick, owner of a hotel in the area, said he was not “so worried about Halloween,” but that just a few days ago the atmosphere was violent. “We recently had another bloody confrontation.”

But just hours before the arrival of Halloween, the city is preparing for one of the biggest events of the year that takes place on Lincoln Road, where at least 50 thousand people will attend with the best costumes for this holiday, something many hope will play down the recent insecurity incidents.

Paula Gomez, from Schwartz Media Strategies, assures that “Lincoln Road continues to be very safe for all families, we are prepared to receive people (…) we have enough security presence in Lincoln so that everyone feels very safe.”

Authorities continue to search for those responsible for the fight at Mega Pizza. For their part, police say patrolling will increase this weekend with the help of Miami-Dade police forces to ensure a safe celebration for all families.
