Former Schalke 04 defender Salif Sané sues club for bonuses

FC Schalke is currently dealing with a lawsuit by Salif Sané. The former central defender from S04 wants to sue for bonuses that the club says he is not entitled to.

It’s been almost a year and two months since Salif Sané played for Schalke 04. It was a five-minute effort in the 2-1 win against Dynamo Dresden. He later made several more appearances in the squad before retiring from recent games. At the end of last season, they parted ways.

And since then it has become quiet around Sané. The 32-year-old has still not found a new club. Instead, he has now contacted the S04 again. However, not for good reasons, but to sue the club.

The WAZ Accordingly, it is about use and point bonuses. Sané says he is still entitled to 253,500 euros. He refers to the missions from the past second division season.

Schalke, on the other hand, emphasizes that no bonuses have been agreed for appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga (in the case of the defender). Therefore, no additional payments are required.

In the first instance, the labor court in Gelsenkirchen dismissed Sané’s claim. Basically, there is the following question: Do the “Bundesliga games” mentioned in the contract also apply to games in the second division? A clear demarcation between the two leagues has probably not been formulated, although the club naturally insists on the supposedly logical interpretation that “Bundesliga” only means the 1st league.

This is how the competent labor court saw it – at least in the first instance. However, since Sané has appealed the preliminary verdict, the case will now be forwarded to the Hamm Higher Labor Court (via WAZ).
