Amid concerns over the disappearance of Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian declared this Sunday that China will face “diplomatic consequences” if the athlete does not begin to speak in public to clarify the situation. “I’m waiting for only one thing: for her to speak”, said the minister to the LCI chain.

The athlete has not been seen in public for more than two weeks, after allegedly denouncing sexual harassment by Zhan Gaoli, vice prime minister of China between 2013 and 2018. Meanwhile, the editor-in-chief of the official Global Times newspaper, Hu Xijin shared some images from the opening of a tournament for teenage tennis players in Beijing featuring Peng Shuai, and said that the event took place on Sunday morning.
