Hervé Vilard: what did the woman he was going to marry die of?

In 1992, Alexandra Giraud, the only woman loved by Hervé Vilard, died suddenly from a devastating illness. She was then pregnant with the singer.

On the occasion of the 74th anniversary, this Friday July 24, 2020, of Herve vilard, Closer invites you to step back in time to discover a dramatic episode in the singer’s life. So back in 1979. Hervé Vilard then a hit with the title We and is returning from a tour of Latin America. Twelve years after being the first French singer to reveal his homosexuality, he nevertheless shares his life with Alexandra Giraud, a Lido dancer he met on a plane back from a gala in Nice. The couple are living in a beautiful apartment in the 16th arrondissement of the capital.

Three times, Hervé Vilard asks for Alexandra’s hand, who ends up accepting. But their respective careers are going to hurt their relationship. While the singer crisscrosses the roads, the young woman goes on shootings all over the world. Separation is inevitable. It intervenes at the beginning of the 1990s. It is a tragedy for Hervé Vilard but the singer is not at the end of his troubles. On November 29, 1992, Alexandra Giraud died ofsevere viral meningitis… Worse still, the former Lido dancer was pregnant and was going to give her first child to Hervé Vilard.

Hervé Vilard: “This child that I did not have, whereas I tried, gay as I am, with this woman who died pregnant …”

Devastated, the singer then finds support from the members of his record company, Tréma, as he tells in his autobiography, My life in songs. “The bosses, Régis Talar and Jacques Revaux, knew everything about me. My tragedies: my mother, this child that I did not have, while I tried, gay as I am, with this woman who died pregnant … With this cocoon they represented, I was invincible “, he remembers.
