Question: I am a 49-year-old man who underwent two ablations against atrial fibrillation (a treatment method against different types of palpitations that is only used when treatment with drugs does not work, eds note) and is today fibrillation-free. I train quite a lot, including cross-country skiing and running as well as strength training, about seven hours a week. For the past ten years I have participated in exercise competitions. My five kilometer times have been consistently around 21 minutes.
In August 2022 I ran in 21.40. After my last ablation in December 2022, I feel that my performance has deteriorated. Most recently, I ran a five-kilometer race in 24.45, even though I trained as I always did. The one kilometer interval times have also deteriorated significantly.
