Augsburg (dpa / lby) – The Augsburg Panthers have extended the contract with defender Mirko Sacher. As the club from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) announced on Wednesday, Sacher will remain with the Panthers regardless of the league.
“He was one of the fastest skaters on the team last season, no other player accelerated more than he did,” said Augsburg coach and sporting director Christof Kreutzer about the 31-year-old. With 15 assists and 2 goals, Sacher was the second-best point-scorer among Panther defenders in the 2022/2023 season. He also received the third longest ice age of all Augsburg players.
In which league Sacher will play next season is still uncertain. As the penultimate of the DEL season, the Swabians are relegated if Kassel, Krefeld or Dresden win the DEL2 playoffs. Only these three teams meet the economic requirements for promotion to the DEL.
