It’s Countess Luana’s Birthday! Who is she anyway?

Party in England, because it’s Luana van Oranje-Nassau’s birthday! The eldest daughter of Prince Friso (1968-2013) and Princess Mabel can blow out eighteen candles today. For this special birthday, we investigated who Luana van Oranje actually is.

Family

Luana van Oranje-Nassau van Amsberg was born on March 26, 2005 in London. At birth, Luana receives the titles: Countess of Orange-Nassau and Jonkvrouw van Amsberg. She is the fourth grandchild of Princess Beatrix, but does not belong to the Royal Family. Friso and Mabel married in 2004 without parliamentary permission, with the result that Countess Luana is not in the line of succession to the throne.

Luana’s father, Prince Friso, falls victim to an avalanche on February 17, 2012 in the ski resort of Lech, Austria. The Countess is six years old at that time. After treatment in the intensive care unit of the Landeskrankenhaus in Innsbruck, the prince will be transferred to London in early March 2012 for further treatment.

In July 2013, he was taken to Huis ten Bosch Palace in the Netherlands. Here he died on August 12, 2013 from the consequences of the accident. The prince was buried in a small circle at the cemetery of the Stulpkerk in Lage Vuursche. A special private memorial service will be held a few months later. We see Luana and her sister in these moments at the side of their mother and grandmother.
