The district of Offenbach and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain signed a cooperation agreement at the end of April, which is initially valid for three years. The Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain would like to further increase both the attractiveness and the image of the region by promoting cultural and artistic projects.

The focus is on the networking and promotion of regional cultural and art events as well as on projects that attract attention nationwide or, in the best case, even internationally. Artists and cultural institutions from the district can apply for funding from the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain. The spectrum of funding ranges from concerts to exhibitions in museums or fine arts, photography, performances, poetry slams or theater performances and readings to film festivals. All these events can benefit from the funding. Because the agreement stipulates that the district pays 1.60 euros per inhabitant to the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain per year – with a current population of almost 360,000, that is around 570,000 euros per year. According to the basic principle of the culture fund, every euro paid in by the municipality is doubled by the state of Hesse. Up to a third of the total costs of a project are funded. Just in time for the official entry into force of the cooperation agreement on July 1, 2022, the first funding applications from the Offenbach district were approved for almost 120,000 euros.

The “SeligenStadtFestival 2022” is funded with 10,000 euros. The “Bridges – Music connects” events in Dreieich and Dietzenbach have also received EUR 10,000 each. The poetry slam event “Head crackles”, the festival for storytelling and performance by the Dreieicher “Feuerfreunde”, can look forward to funding of 15,500 euros. “Open Doors” in Neu-Isenburg gets 22,800 euros. Finally, the funding for the castle festival in Dreieich amounts to 50,000 euros. “By concluding the cooperation agreement, we have the opportunity to raise art and culture in the Offenbach district to a new level by bringing well-known artists and their innovative ideas to the district together with the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain or by increasing the radiance of our existing flagships . There is a lively, creative cultural scene and many cultural highlights in the Offenbach district. Our goal is to establish further events that have an impact far beyond the district,” explains District Administrator Oliver Quilling, explaining the goals of the cooperation agreement.

Abundance of top-class cultural institutions

“The Rhine-Main area has a wealth of top-class cultural institutions that the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain supports with the aim of strengthening their supra-regional appeal and promoting their regional networking. This region doesn’t have to hide behind any other region in Germany. The district of Offenbach and its exciting art and cultural landscape are a real enrichment for the culture fund. This is already shown by the first joint projects, their approach and their attraction for people with an affinity for culture in the Rhine-Main area. The cooperation between the Kulturfonds and the district is therefore a win-win situation for everyone,” explains Karin Wolff, Managing Director of the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.

In addition to the state of Hesse, the cities of Frankfurt am Main, Darmstadt, Wiesbaden, Hanau, Bad Vilbel, Offenbach am Main and Oestrich-Winkel as well as the Main-Taunus and Hochtaunus districts are shareholders of the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain. As a probationary member, the district of Offenbach is active in the fund committees in an advisory capacity.
