The data was reported to the United Nations by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), according to UNDP HDR.
Since 1999, UNDP has played a role in recovering after the country chose independence from Indonesia.

UNDP operates a sustainable development program, and focuses on placing Timor Leste in a democratic government.

According to the 2020 MPI, Timor Leste has a poverty rate of 0.210 or around 45.8 percent.
