Lordstown Motors will compete with its electric Endurance pickup in the San Felipe 250 race in Baja California

The electric truck company Lordstown Motors (NASDAQ: RIDE), which will soon launch its electric pick-up focused on the commercial fleet market, has entered with its Endurance vehicle in the grueling race that takes place in the desert of San Felipe, in Baja California.

The race is part of the series SCORE World Desert Championship and it is celebrated in the Mexican desert, considered one of the most exhausting, harsh and most punishing deserts inflicts on a car.

The race covers a distance of 466 km starting and ending in San Felipe, a town located in Baja California, Mexico. The date of the event this year is set for April 17.

A tough race

By signing up for this tough race, Lordstown Motors aims to prove that its new Endurance is not only one of the safest and most efficient trucks on the market, but also that it is the toughest and most robust pick-up to face a test of the hardness of San Felipe desert.

This test, in the words of Steve Burns, CEO of Lordstown Motors “it is quite an important milestone for electric vehicles that an electric van can compete in an environment as demanding as Baja California”.

According to Burns the «Our goal is to be the first electric vehicle to complete the San Felipe 250, and with superior traction, weight balance, and advanced software control from our in-wheel motor-based Endurance, we’re confident we’ll do just that.«.

After being postponed during 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the San Felipe 250 2021, which will be held in April in the Baja California peninsula in Mexico, will be the first event of the season of the SCORE Desert World Championship which this year begins its ninth consecutive season.

Facts about the electric pick-up

The Lordstown Endurance It is an all-electric pickup that has a range of 402 km on a single charge. The power is 600 hp, depending on the brand, being able to tow up to 3,400 kgs.

Having completed construction and testing of its Alpha prototypes, Lordstown is now building the first Beta Endurance vehicles and is on track to begin production in September of this year.

The initial Endurance with a crew cab configuration with a mid-length bed, will be sold at a price of 37.400 euros after deduction of federal reimbursement in the United States.
