Making an innuendo about Formula E, Anies Baswedan: Sorry to disappoint

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan made a satire about Formula E Jakarta in his remarks at the Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah I National Working Meeting, last Friday. He apologized to those who were disappointed because Formula E was held in the capital.

“I apologize to some who because yesterday’s Formula E was disappointing. Disappointing people who are pessimistic can happen,” he said with a smile, quoted from the UMTC Channel Youtube video upload, Monday, June 13, 2022.

Participants of the Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah National Working Meeting laughed at this statement.

Anies said those who were pessimistic about Formula E Jakarta being able to implement it became disappointed. However, he did not directly mention who the parties were disappointed with the implementation of the Jakarta E-Prix. To be sure, Anies said there were those who were disappointed.

“We really want to make everyone happy, but some are disappointed,” said the former Minister of Education and Culture.

In his opening remarks, Anies said the capital city had been deserted for two years due to the Covid-19 outbreak. He was then grateful that Jakarta was starting to get busy, so that it could boost the regional economy.

“But no less important, we want to show that many things are being done in Jakarta during the pandemic. God willing, if you come, it will be a bit confusing to see this city,” he said.

Formula E Jakarta will be held on June 4, 2022. Before the electric car race was held, the PDIP and PSI factions of the DKI Jakarta DPRD questioned the event and even proposed the right of interpellation against Anies Baswedan. According to these two parties, Formula E only spends DKI’s APBD because the DKI Government has disbursed Rp 560 billion to pay the commitment fee for the race.
