Rob Lantz has announced his resignation as premier of Prince Edward Island as he seeks to become the leader of the Progressive Conservatives.
Rob Lantz Seeks Progressive Conservative Leadership
Lantz had been serving as interim leader of the party and was sworn in as premier in February following the departure of Dennis King.
Prior to becoming premier, Lantz served as education minister under King, who had held the position since 2019.
Lantz had previously stated he would not pursue the party’s permanent leadership role.
He described his decision to now seek the leadership as not one he made lightly.
According to Lantz, conversations with residents of Prince Edward Island led him to believe the decision “had to be made to ensure stability and strong leadership behind a united team.”
