Perfect transfer: Janik Haberer is moving from SC Freiburg to Union Berlin on a free transfer

Union Berlin will be strengthened with midfielder Janik Haberer for the coming season. As the capital city club announced on Monday, the 28-year-old is moving from Bundesliga competitor SC Freiburg to Köpenicker on a free transfer. His contract with the sports club expires at the end of the season.

“I was looking for a new challenge and found it in the move from Freiburg to Berlin,” said the professional, whose future club will be represented internationally in the new round, just like SC. He is “confident that we can play a good role in all three competitions next season.” Haberer brings “a lot of variability and can play different positions in midfield,” said Union managing director Oliver Ruhnert about his newcomer.

Haberer had played in Freiburg since 2016. Since then he has repeatedly been thrown back by injuries, but in the meantime also toyed with a change. In the current season he played 25 games for Baden. SC sports director Jochen Saier said in March that the club was preparing for the 28-year-old to leave in the summer.
