Registration opens for the National Short Story Contest “History is won by those who write”

Until November 26, the Ministry of Culture opens the call for the National Contest “History is won by those who write”with the aim of making visible the written productions of the young people of our country and accompanying the cultural transformations that the new generations are going through.

This call consists of 3 lines:

  • HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT Line: LOOKS

Aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 19 who are pursuing their secondary studies in public secondary schools, both state-run and private (including common, technical and rural schools).

  • Line for STUDENTS WHO ARE FINISHING THEIR MANDATORY STUDIES IN ADULT SCHOOLS: UTOPIAS

Aimed at people -without age limit- who are in the last two years in adult schools, in institutions such as: popular high schools, adult secondary, accelerated secondary, FinEs plan, distance secondary, among others .

  • Line for HOLDER STUDENTS OF THE PROGRESAR PROGRAM (UPPER LEVEL): AVATARS

Intended for young people and adults who are holders of the Progresar Higher Level program. In this case, the holders must be between 17 and 24 years old. However, the age exceptions proposed by the program will be taken into account, among them: advanced students in the career, up to thirty (30) years old; nursing students with no age limit; and for people with dependent children under the age of 18 belonging to single-parent households, it is extended up to 35 years of age. In addition, there is no age limit for trans people, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities or refugees.

The story presented must reflect a look committed to the well-being of society and express an involvement in the demands and situations that the different sectors that make up Argentine society are going through today. At the same time, the written production must propose (directly or indirectly), and in dialogue with the title of this call “History is won by those who write”, some type of social, cultural and/or economic transformation that implies a qualitative improvement for some neglected or vulnerable sector, or society as a whole.

The proposal is an invitation to express ideas and transformation projects inscribed in the current political, cultural and educational agenda through fictional narrative and the use of imagination. In this sense, whoever participates in this contest must submit a single story of a minimum of 7000 (seven thousand) characters with spaces in the following categories:

  • Use of social networks and technological transformations
    Possible topics: technological convergence; production of contents with the cell phone; video games and virtual reality; streaming; active user participation; big data and algorithms; digital platforms and digital identity, among others.

  • Environment, vegetarianism and veganism
    Possible topics: animal care; protection of the planet and the ecosystem; sustainability; environmental awareness; recycling and food sovereignty, among others.

  • Political visions and cultural transformations
    Possible topics: gender equality; political representation; inclusion and social justice; right to education, health and decent housing; new ways of bonding sex affectively; community organization, universal access to culture, among others.

The first three works selected for each line will be awarded an amount of:

  • 1st Prize for $60,000.
  • 2nd Prize for $30,000.
  • 3rd Prize for $20,000.
  • 5 special mentions

In addition, the winning works and those with mentions will be part of a publication in digital format.

This call is possible thanks to the work of the National Directorate for the Promotion of Cultural Projects of the Ministry of Cultural Development.
