Strong Belgian Cats leave no stone unturned from weak China | EC basketball

The Belgian Cats have won their first of 2 exhibition matches against China with a big difference. In Kortrijk, the Chinese suffered a 90-55 defeat.

China is the vice world champion, but only 4 players of the team that won silver at the World Cup last year played in De Lange Munte on Thursday evening.

A sloppy playing China was at no time a match for a strong Belgium, which put a lot of defensive pressure and finished off in attack. At halftime the difference had already increased to 25 points: 46-21.

After the break, national coach Méziane was able to experiment to his heart’s content, but the game did not suffer. Everyone pitched in and the gap only widened. Final score: 90-55.

On Saturday, the Belgian Cats will play against China again, then in a sold-out Sportoase in Leuven. It will be the last exhibition match for the Belgian women, who will open their European Championship against Israel next Thursday in Tel-Aviv.

The day after the exhibition victory against Turkey, the Belgian Cats lost in Cordoba to world top Spain, the number four in the world.

During the break the difference was limited (34-29), but afterwards the Spaniards ran further. In the end, the players of national coach Rachid Meziane went down 72-54.

Emma Meesseman only played for 10 minutes as a precaution, Kyara Linskens remained aside for the entire match.

The Cats will soon return to Belgium, where they will play a new practice pot against China, the number two in the world, on Thursday in Kortrijk. On Saturday they conclude their practice campaign in the Leuven Sportoase with a new match against China.

Just like 2 days ago, the Belgian Cats won against Greece on Sunday in an exhibition match. In Braine-l’Alleud, the difference was slightly bigger than on Friday: 86-57.

Thanks to an ultimate score by Mununga, there was still almost a 30-point difference on the board. The audience enjoyed the buzzer beater to the fullest, even though it turned out not to be a three-pointer, but a two-pointer.

The Belgian Cats will travel to Spain next week for their second foreign internship in this European Championship preparation. In Cordoba they will practice against Turkey on Saturday and against Spain on Sunday.

In their first of two exhibition matches on Belgian soil, the Greek women have not been able to crumble much against the Belgian Cats. At halftime they were already 13 points indebted: 42-29.

Because the Belgians were a bit more lax and careless in the 4th quarter, it seemed that Greece could more or less limit the damage. But a Belgian final offensive still made sure that the difference was considerable: 83-60.

Belgium and Greece will meet again on Sunday, but this time in Braine-l’Alleud.

After a double confrontation in and against Serbia, the Belgian Cats returned home with a win and a loss. Emma Meesseman took a young Belgian team in tow. During the European Championship preparation, some Cats were told that they would move to other places next year. For example, Antonia Delaere decorated a top transfer from the Italian Venezia to the Spanish Avenida. Becky Massey leaves Madrid and her twin sister. She does not yet know where her future lies.

Today it also became known that Hind Ben Abdelkader is leaving Villeneuve. The team of national coach Rachid Méziane lost the final of the play-offs to Lyon, with Julie Allemand. That was Ben Abdelkader’s last achievement with the vice champion. It is not yet clear where she will play next year.
