According to Anthony Fauci, coronavirus can mutate and become more contagious. However, scientists have not yet found evidence that such a mutation will make the disease they cause more severe

The new SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19 disease can become more contagious in the event of a mutation. This was stated by Director of the National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases of the United States Anthony Fauci in an interview with the medical journal JAMA Netwok, published on the publication’s YouTube channel.
“It seems like a certain mutation can make the virus more contagious,” Fauchi said. He added that now scientists are arguing about this, but the available data indicate the possibility of a virus mutation that accelerates its replication.
At the same time, the infectious disease specialist noted that doctors have no evidence that as a result of such a mutation, the virus becomes more dangerous for an infected person and leads to more serious health consequences.
Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences admitted mutation of coronavirus into more aggressive forms
Earlier in June, scientists from Novosibirsk created a mathematical model that confirmed that mutations enhance the infectivity of coronavirus. In particular, its ability to penetrate into healthy cells increases, which leads to an increase in infectivity by 2.5-8 times.
