Between appearance and reality: Javier Bardem as “The Perfect Boss” in the cinema

The perfect boss
From July 29, 2022 only in cinemas

In the new film by Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa, Oscar winner Javier Bardem plays the charismatic CEO Julio Blanco. He runs a successful family business manufacturing industrial scales in rural Spain. Blanco likes to present himself as the perfect boss. When the opportunity arises for an award for excellent corporate management, he does everything in his power to win the prestigious award.

Of course, everything turns out differently than planned. So Blanco has to deal with several things at the same time: a recently fired employee, a frustrated production manager and an intern in love. In a grotesque race against time, he desperately tries to solve these problems – and in doing so, crosses all sorts of moral boundaries.

“The perfect boss” (original title “El buen patrón”) makes it clear that corporate responsibility and social responsibility are two different things. Even though Julio Blanco likes to portray himself as the “good patron” of his employees, the company boss has one thing at heart: the well-being and image of his company. The scales at the company gate play a symbolic role, because there can be no question of social balance here. “The Perfect Boss” is a bitter social satire about the world of work and entrepreneurship.

The comedy was Spain’s Oscar nomination and won no less than six times at the Spanish film tour “Goya”: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Original Music and Best Actor.

Would you like to see “The Perfect Boss” for yourself? Then simply answer the questions and win two cinema vouchers.
