The plane returned to Miami, the passenger was taken away by the police.
MIAMI. American Airlines’ flight to London reversed and returned to Miami after a woman on a plane refused to comply with a federal ordinance to wear a veil.
The airlines, which were referred to by the AP news agency, informed about it on Thursday.
The airline called the police in Miami and members escorted the woman from the plane at the international airport on Wednesday evening, the situation went without incident.
A spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department in the U.S. state of Florida said that American Airlines personnel treated the passenger “according to official regulations.”
The woman was placed on the US internal list of unauthorized persons on board the aircraft due to the ongoing investigation, the airline spokesman added.
During the coronavirus pandemic, airlines have repeatedly expelled passengers if they refused to comply with the obligation to put on a face mask to prevent the spread of Covid-19 contagious disease.
American Airlines said there were 129 passengers and 14 crew members on board. The pilots turned the Boeing 777 after less than an hour of transatlantic flight, as shown by records from FlightAware, which monitors flights in real time.
Airlines reported nearly 6,000 incidents caused by undisciplined passengers last year and reported 151 in the first two weeks of this year, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Most of these incidents involved passengers who refused to wear a veil.
