Some large health insurance companies are only increasing the contributions moderately – but could follow suit again next year.

Berlin, Munich Many citizens not only have to pay significantly more for heating and electricity – statutory health insurance will also be more expensive this year. Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) announced in the summer that the contributions must rise to a new record.
The average additional contribution should increase by 0.3 percentage points – and thus to a total of 16.2 percent of gross wages. The reason is the disastrous financial situation of the cash registers, which Lauterbach wants to stabilize with higher contributions. Workers and employers share the burden.
After the health insurers decided on their individual contribution increases at the end of the year, it is now clear that the jump will be somewhat smaller than feared. Larger funds in particular only raise the additional contribution by 0.2 percentage points, and some even do without it.
