During the corona pandemic, many retail workers lost their income. Now they are calling for greater protection through better collective agreements.
With warning strikes in the retail trade, the Verdi union wants to emphasize its demand for higher wages in many cities in Lower Saxony on Friday. “Even employees whose companies were temporarily closed due to the pandemic now need a table-effective increase in salaries and protection through collective agreements,” said Verdi union secretary Sebastian Triebel. The employees suffered a loss of income through short-time work.
A demonstration and rally is planned for the morning in downtown Hanover. According to the union, there are strikes in the Hanover region, in Lüneburg, Walsrode, Celle, Hameln and Hessisch Oldendorf, Braunschweig, Osnabrück, Oldenburg and Bremen. Affected are branches of H&M, Douglas, Zara, Primark, E-Center, Penny Markt, Kaufland, Marktkauf and Ikea.
