Steven Da Costa was crowned world championship karate in – 67 kg by defeating Brazilian Vinicius Figueira (6-5) in Saturday's final in Madrid. A karatékas sibling (his brothers Jessie and Logan are also part of the French team competing at the 2018 Worlds), he was playing his first world finals in the senior category. A promising consecration, two years from the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, where karate will be invited for the first time at the Olympic high mass.

In its wake, the French women's team, composed of Leïla Heurtault, Léa Avazeri and Andréa Bito, retained the world title in the final against Japan.
