Canada will host Iran in a summer friendly before the World Cup

The Canadian Men’s National Team will face Iran in a friendly on June 5 before their two Concacaf Nations League games.

Iran’s visit marks the first of consecutive international matches at the Vancouver Whitecaps’ BC Place stadium, as Canada hosts Curacao for the opening match of the Concacaf tournament on June 9. The Canadian team will close the June international window on the 13th by visiting Honduras for the Group C match.

It will be a busy summer for John Herdman’s team as Canada prepares for the World Cup, its first appearance at the international tournament since 1986. The team managed to qualify after a dizzying Concacaf cycle in which the underdogs topped the table with 28 points from 14 games, beating Mexico and the United States.

Les Rouges have been drawn into Group F, along with Belgium, Croatia and Morocco. They are scheduled to start on November 23 against Belgium.

Iran, on the other hand, will be participating in their third World Cup in a row, after successfully navigating the Asian qualifying route. They are in Group B, joining England, USA and the UEFA Path A winners (either Wales, Scotland or Ukraine).
