Colorado has elected Rep. Jared Polis, the country's first openly gay governor, to the state on a historic night.
During his election campaign against Republican candidate Walker Stapleton, the 43-year-old polis for general healthcare, free early childhood education, and the transformation of Colorado entered a fully renewable energy status.
According to the Associated Press, Polis have received 51.6 percent of the votes in recent polls, ahead of 45 percent by Stapleton.
Polis made his fortune, estimated at $ 387 million Denver Postas a technology entrepreneur.
He was co-founder of American Information Systems (AIS). He sold the company in 1998 and founded the electronic greeting card site bluemountain.com and an online florist.
He is a philanthropist and founded the Jared Polis Foundation, which promotes education and provides resources such as computers for schools.
In 2008, he became the first openly gay man to be elected to the house. He has since served in the 2nd District of Colorado and has championed the legalization of marijuana and nursing for individuals.

In his Tuesday evening victory speech, he thanked his partner Marlon Reis, whom he said was "the first man ever in Colorado history."
"As governor, I will always serve with the Colorado way of life in my heart and mind."
"And I promise to serve all Coloradans, regardless of your party, no matter who you've chosen for this race family deserves," reported the Denver Channel.
According to CBS News, 26 LGBTQ candidates were running for office during 2018. These included the Democratic Governor of Oregon, Kate Brown, Christine Hallquist from Vermont and Lupe Valdez, the Democrat of Texas.
New Jersey head of state Jim McGreevey was a gay man before leaving office in the early 2000s.
Polis also becomes the first Jewish governor of the state and succeeds Democratic governor John Hickenlooper, whom he praised in his victory speech.
