Kochi: The Lakshadweep Police in the Lakshadweep High Court has asked the court not to grant anticipatory bail to Ayesha Sultana, a native of Lakshadweep, on treason charges. Earlier in the day, Ayesha was asked to state her position to the Central Government and the Lakshadweep government while considering her anticipatory bail petition. Following this, the police informed the court of their position.
Ayesha has been asked to appear only as part of the preliminary investigation. Concerns about being arrested are irrelevant. At the same time, the anti-national provisions imposed against Ayesha remain. The police informed the court that the notice was issued under Rule 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Ayesha has been charged with treason for allegedly using ‘biological weapons’ during a channel discussion. Kavaratti has been asked to appear before the police on the 20th of this month. In this case, they demanded that he be arrested if he reached Kavaratti and that he be granted anticipatory bail. Ayesha had apologized on social media after being charged with treason.
One of the complainants, Pratheesh Vishwanathan, had filed an application in the high court yesterday seeking a hearing on Ayesha’s anticipatory bail application. The case is adjourned till tomorrow.
