Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
CEO Microsoft, Satya Nadella is now reported to be the head of the board of directors at the technology giant, Wednesday (16/6).
Nadella has served as the company’s chief executive since 2014 and has helped turn the PC operating system maker into a cloud computing champion in recent years.
Under his leadership, Microsoft managed to get a market capitalization of nearly US$2 trillion or Rp29,129 quadrillion (exchange rate of Rp14,375).
Microsoft said that the appointment of Nadella to replace John Thompson was taken unanimously. This appointment is seen as proof of Microsoft’s great trust in Nadella’s leadership.
Previously, Bill Gates stepped down from his position as CEO in 2000. Then, he fully stepped down from Microsoft’s board of directors in 2020.
The election report comes as the company grapples with a legal investigation involving one of its founders.
Last month, news emerged of an affair between Bill Gates and an employee in 2000.
Microsoft’s board said they had been investigating the matter for the past two years.
The allegations come less than two weeks after the announcement of Gates’ divorce from his wife, Melinda French Gates.
Since then, Microsoft has faced intense scrutiny over its workplace culture.
Quoted CNN, Nadella personally responded to the accusations against Gates. He said that the Microsoft of 2021 is very different from the Microsoft of 2000.
“For me and everyone at Microsoft, our focus on culture, diversity, inclusion and the everyday experiences of everyone is very important,” he said.
