The Government of Yaracuy state, together with the Cell Therapy Unit (UTC) of the Venezuelan Institute of Scientific Research (IVIC), will carry out regenerative medicine treatments next week in two health centers in the Llanera region.
According to the press release of the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (Mppct), the treatments are part of the agreement signed between IVIC and the Government, as reported by the head of the Cell Therapy Unit, José Cardier, who stressed that in a short time excellent results have been achieved, with the firm intention of promoting the entity in all research and applications of stem cells in patients.
The agreement contemplates the treatment of people for the regeneration of bone, skin and dentistry; as well as the accompaniment to the training of talents.
“We facilitated a series of talks in San Felipe; The bioethics commissions of the Niño Jesús and General de Yaracuy pediatric hospitals were formed, in addition to the selection of patients to whom cell therapy treatments will be applied. It is worth highlighting the great interest and commitment of health personnel in the region in carrying out these therapies, ”he said.
The regenerative medicine expert explained that, two weeks ago, bone marrow samples were taken, which is where mesenchymal stromal cells are obtained.
Likewise, he emphasized that the cells have been processed at UTC and have been successfully cultured to perform the treatments in a boy with a severe burn, a girl with congenital tibial nonunion and an adult with nonunion due to a fracture that never joined.
As part of the training for the regenerative medicine area that the medical personnel in the aforementioned state will take, the head of the Traumatology Unit, Dr. Magaly Gutiérrez, visited the UTC, who will participate in the application of the treatment of a child with a severe burn ; and Dr. Giuseppe Sierra, head of Surgical Subspecialties at the Niño Jesús Pediatric Hospital in Yaracuy state, who also joins the team of traumatologists who will intervene in the bone regeneration procedure in the other two patients.
“With the application of this treatment, we could give an important contribution to science in the world in this pathology with the application of mesenchymal stromal cells. There is great expectation not only in the medical area, but in the Yaracuyana community, which has its eyes set on the effort that is being made in this field of research of such a high level, ”he stressed.
