Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has announced that it will add 600 megawatts of clean energy operating capacity using photovoltaic and concentrated solar panels technologies during the current year, bringing the total production capacity of the authority of clean energy to 1,613 megawatts, compared to 1,013 megawatts currently.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said that next July, the first project with a capacity of 300 megawatts will be launched within the fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, and in September the tallest concentrated solar power tower in the world will be inaugurated, with a height of 262.44. meters and with a capacity of 100 megawatts within the fourth phase of the complex, and the authority will launch the first part of the parabolic trough reflectors system with a capacity of 200 megawatts within the same stage before the end of the year. Thus, the authority will add 300 megawatts with photovoltaic solar panels technology and 300 megawatts with concentrated solar energy technology, and the production capacity of clean energy will reach within The energy mix in Dubai will reach about 10% during the month of July and 12% by the end of this year.
Al Tayer said: “At DEWA, our strategies and action plans are inspired by the insightful vision and sound directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, to promote sustainability, innovation and transformation towards a sustainable green economy. Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy is one of the most prominent projects implemented by the authority to achieve this vision and increase the proportion of renewable and clean energy production capacity within Dubai’s energy mix within the framework of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 75% of the energy production capacity in Dubai from clean energy sources By 2050, and since its launch, the complex has received wide interest from international developers, which reflects the confidence of investors from all over the world in the major projects implemented by the authority.”
He stressed that the major projects implemented by the authority in cooperation with the private sector, according to the independent product model, contribute to promoting economic growth in the emirate, and through this model, the authority has achieved world records in the lowest prices for solar energy projects for five consecutive times, and Dubai has become a benchmark for solar energy prices worldwide and has attracted The authority is about 40 billion dirhams of investment through the independent energy producer model.
The Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence Sector at DEWA, Engineer Walid Salman, explained that the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex is the largest investment project in one location in the world that combines the two technologies of concentrated solar energy and solar photovoltaic according to the system. The independent producer with a capacity of 950 megawatts and investments amounting to about 16 billion dirhams.. He pointed out that this stage has the largest storage capacity of solar energy in the world for a period of 15 hours, which allows the availability of energy 24 hours a day.
It is noteworthy that the authority obtained the lowest global price of 1.6953 US cents per kilowatt-hour for the fifth phase of the complex with a capacity of 900 megawatts using photovoltaic solar panels.
The project uses the latest technology of two-sided photovoltaic solar panels with a single-axis solar tracking system to increase energy productivity.
